Thinking About Medical School? Think About This!
According to the American Association of Medical Colleges, only 40% of those that apply to medical school are accepted their first year of application. How can your application improve? According to Paul Jung, M.D., “Many premeds make the terrible mistake of simply applying a second time without significantly improving their applications. There must be a substantial improvement in your new application for the admissions committees to take notice, such as a unique job.”
In addition, they recommend that in order to enhance your chances of being accepted to gain “experience”. What better way to gain experience than that of a paramedic emergency responder. In addition, one would need to ask themselves what they might do to pay for expenses until the next year’s cohort application rolls around. America is experiencing a sudden increase in the number of baby boomers who are retiring and the demand for the services of paramedics will only increase. What a great opportunity to gain the necessary practice that med schools are looking for as well as having a stable, rewarding job!
EKU’s Department of Paramedicine has a pre-med track that allows you to gain your paramedic license while completing the courses demanded by medical schools. The attached infographic shows just how a Paramedicine degree could fit into you medical school plans. For more information on how this could benefit you contact Bill Young at email@example.com.
